Chico Jujube
(G17-62) Round, flat-bottomed fruit of medium size. Known for its rich, sweet and tangy flavor. Ripens late season. Partly self-fruitful. 200 hours. USDA Zones 5-9.
Calville Blanc Apple
Classic French dessert apple, also excellent for cooking and cider. (Long-time apple tester Warren Manhart of Portland, Oregon regards Calville as 'the best pie and sauce apple he has grown'). Flattened, round shape with prominent, uneven ribs near the base. Usually harvested green, turning yellow and reaching peak flavor a month or so after picking. Best quality reached after the first few crops. Harvest in late midseason, just after Jonagold. Vigorous grower with weeping side limbs. Origin unknown, planted in France in the early 1600s. Estimated chilling requirement 800-1000 hours. Pollenizer required. USDA Zones 5-7.
Cox Orange Pippin Apple
Old favorite dessert apple: firm, juicy, sweet, rich flavor, not tart, distinctive aroma. Skin is orange red to bright red over yellow. Prefers moderate climate. Midseason. 800 hours. Self-fruitful. USDA Zones 4-8.
Gravenstein Apple
Famous for sauce and baking, also used fresh. Crisp, juicy, flavorful & tart. Early bloom, early harvest. 700 hours. Pollenizer required: Empire, Fuji, Gala, Red Delicious. Not a pollenizer for other varieties. USDA Zones 2-9.
Chinese Apricot
Cold hardy, frost hardy, sets heavy crops of small to medium size sweet fruit. Recommended for difficult climates prone to spring frosts. 700 hours. Self-fruitful. USDA Zones 4-7.
Montrose Apricot
Frost-resistant late bloom; vigorous, very hardy tree, a select seedling discovered at Montrose, Colorado. Large, sweet, yellow fruit with a red blush, edible pit. Ripens mid-July. Est. chill requirement 600 hours. Self-fruitful. USDA Zones 5-9.
Puget Gold Apricot
Proven producer of large, flavorful fruit in Western Washington. Recommended for other western climates where spring rains and frosts limit apricot culture. Harvest early August. 600 hours. Self-fruitful. USDA Zones 6-9.
Hosui Asian Pear
Consistently rated the best-tasting Asian pear at Dave Wilson Nursery fruit tastings. Large, juicy, sweet, flavorful, refreshing, crisp like an apple. Brownish-orange russeted skin. Harvest early to mid-August in Central CA. 300-400 hours. Pollenized by Shinko, Chojuro, Bartlett, or 20th Century.
Ichiban Nashi Asian Pear
The earliest-ripening Asian pear. Medium-sized fruit with a light golden brown russet skin. Crisp, crunchy flesh is sweet with especially fine flavor. Harvest mid to late July in Central CA. Keeps six weeks. Productive, moderately vigorous tree. 400 hours. Pollenizer required.
Shinko Asian Pear
Late ripening - September in Central CA - and excellent quality. Juicy, sweet, flavorful, refreshing, crisp like an apple. Golden brown russeted skin. 450 hours. Pollenized by Hosui, Chojuro, Kikusui, Bartlett
Tennosui Asian Pear
Assumed to be a chance cross of TENN (also known as Tennessee pear) and Hosui pear. Crisp, bell-shaped fruit matures late July to Early August and is very productive. Cut fruit remains crisp and tasty and is slow to oxidize. Shows resistance to fire blight. 150-450 hrs. Self-fruitful.
Yoinashi Asian Pear
Large, light brown to golden brown russet skin. Fine-textured, crisp, crunchy, juicy, sweet and flavorful. Harvest late August in Central CA, after 20th Century. 300-400 hours. Pollenizer required.
Bali Sour Cherry
Natural dwarf to 7 ft. Large 1” fruit is the sweetest of the sour cherries. Ripens late August. Discovered near Edmonton, Alberta Canada: hardy to -40. Self-fruitful. Est. chill requirement 400-700 hours. USDA Zones 3-9.
Montmorency Sour Cherry
Large, light red skin, yellow flesh. Perfect for cobblers, pies, etc. Extremely winter hardy. Very heavy bearing. 500 hours. Self-fruitful. USDA Zones 4-9.
Dolgo Crabapple
Long-time favorite all-purpose crabapple, imported from Russia in late 19th century. Large, fragrant, white flowers. 1 1/2-inch oval-shaped red fruit makes tasty, bright red jelly. Vigorous, upright, open tree to 30 by 25 ft. Resistant to scab, rust, mildew, fire blight. 500 hours. Self-fruitful.
Green Gage (Bavay's) European Plum
Superior selection of gage-type European plum. Small to medium-sized, richly flavored & very sweet. Excellent fresh and for cooking. More productive in moderate winter climates than common Green Gage. Originated in Belgium in 19th century. Estimated winter chilling requirement 700 hours. Self-fruitful.
White Genoa Fig
Old variety, a favorite in cool coastal areas - also excellent inland. Greenish-yellow skin, amber flesh, distinctive flavor. Prune to any shape. 100 hours. Self-fruitful. USDA Zones 7-9.
Shiro-Kaga Fruiting-Flowering Apricot
Fruiting, flowering Japanese Apricot. White, fragrant single petal flowers bloom early in February. Fruits at 1" diameter are harvested for pickling, dehydrating and medicinal purposes. Harvest in mid May. Self-fruitful but best when pollinated by another early blooming apricot like Bongo or Mokel. Required chill 400 hours or less. Best in zones 7-10.
Contorted Jujube
Interesting ornamental form: twisted, contorted branching. Round-shaped edible fruits similar to Li. Fruits reddish-brown when ripe, eaten firm and crunchy or room-dried to date-like chewy sweetness. Prolonged harvest beginning early fall. Attractive, easy-to-grow tree: hardy, drought resistant, virtually pest and disease free. Requires long, hot summer. Very low chilling requirement. Partly self-fruitful or pollenized by Lang.
Shanxi Li Jujube
Largest of the popular jujube varieties (over 2 inches), round shape. Apple-like flavor, sweetens when dried. Self-fruitful and a good pollenizer for other varieties. 200 hours. USDA Zones 5-9.
Black Beauty Mulberry
(Morus nigra sp.) Large, shiny fruit similar to Persian, known for its flavor. Can be grown as a tree or large shrub. Ripens early summer. Attractive to birds. Self-fruitful. 200 hours or less. USDA Zones 7-10.
Pakistan Fruiting Mulberry
Morus alba 'Pakistan'
Long (3 inches), firm, red to black, sweet fruit. Non-staining juice. Month-long early summer harvest. Fruit used fresh and for pies, jams and jellies. Large, vigorous, disease-resistant tree.
Persian Fruiting Mulberry
Morus nigra 'Persian'
Densely foliated tree to 25-30 ft. Large heart-shaped leaves. Large fruit is juicy, dark red to black and good for jam. USDA Zones 7-9.
Tea's Weeping Mulberry
Morus alba 'Pendula'
Fast growing, heat-loving tree with blackberry-like fruit. Mature tree size 20 by 20 ft. Low chilling requirement. USDA Zones 4-9.
Harko Nectarine
One of the highest scoring nectarines in DWN fruit tastings. Cold hardy Canadian variety has showy, large, single pink blossoms. Ripens with Redhaven Peach in early July in Central CA. Tolerant of bacterial spot and brown rot. 800 hours. Self-fruitful.
Mericrest Nectarine
Very cold hardy, frost hardy, late bloom. Crops after sub zero winters. Large, red-skinned yellow freestone with rich tangy flavor. Very high scoring in taste tests, highly recommended. Mid-July in Central CA. 800 hours. Self-fruitful.
Arbequina AS1® Olive
Arebequina has become California's top variety for oil production. Mild and fruit flavor with low bitterness, the fruit is very high in oil content. It has a compact growing habit and is moderately frost hardy. Self-fruitful, but produces higher yields when planted with a pollenizer such as Arbosana.
Contender Peach
Contender is a proven producer of high quality, all-purpose freestone peaches for cold climates. The medium to large-sized firm fruit is sweet, juicy, aromatic and very flavorful. Mostly red skin, non-browning yellow flesh. Vigorous tree, frost tolerant late-blooming buds, moderate to good resistance to bacterial spot. Harvest about three weeks after Redhaven. Introduced by North Carolina State University in 1989. Chilling requirement 1050 hours. Self-fruitful. Zones 4-9a.
Donut (Stark Saturn) White Peach
Unique white-fleshed fruit with a sunken center (shaped like a doughnut). Sweet, with a mild flavor described by some as almond-like. Ripens late June/early July in Central CA. Estimated chilling requirement 200-300 hours. Self-fruitful.
Frost Peach
Resistant to peach leaf curl (10-year trials at Washington State Univ.). Delicious yellow freestone. Slight red blush over greenish-yellow to yellow skin. Heavy bearing, excellent for canning or eating fresh. July ripening. Showy pink bloom in spring. 700 hours. Self-fruitful.
Indian Blood Cling Peach
Large, late season canning peach. Red skin, red flesh, rich flavor. Blooms late, sets heavy crops. 800 hours. Self-fruitful.
Indian Free White Peach
The all-time highest rated peach at Dave Wilson Nursery fruit tastings. Large freestone, firm crimson and cream colored flesh. Tart until fully ripe, then highly aromatic with a rich, distinctive flavor. Highly resistant to peach leaf curl. Late season. 700 hours. Another nectarine or peach needed to pollenize.
Muir Peach
Resistant to peach leaf curl. Large yellow freestone with dense flesh and rich, sweet, distinctive flavor. Unattractive, greenish yellow skin. Excellent for drying, canning and fresh use. Harvest late July in Central CA. Discovered on John Muir's property near Vacaville, CA, around 1880. 600-700 hours. Self-fruitful.
Polly White Peach
One of the most winter hardy peach varieties. Developed in Iowa, hardy to -20 deg F. Reliable crops of tasty, sweet, medium-sized, white-fleshed fruit. Crimson-blushed white skin. 1,000 hours. Self-fruitful.
Q-1-8 White Peach
Peach leaf curl resistant variety, tested at the WSU research station at Mt. Vernon, Washington. In the Dave Wilson Nursery orchards the white-fleshed, semi-freestone fruit is sweet and juicy like Babcock, with a more sprightly flavor. Harvest mid to late July in Central CA. Showy blossoms. 700-800 hours. Self-fruitful.
Redhaven Peach
Long one of the world's most widely planted peaches. High quality yellow freestone. Ripens early July in Central CA. Frost hardy, excellent producer. Fresh/freeze. 800 hours. Self-fruitful.
Reliance Peach
Late blooming. Very cold hardy/frost hardy. Sweet, flavorful yellow freestone - best choice for climates having severe cold in winter and spring. Harvest 2-3 weeks before Elberta. Showy bloom. 1000 hours. Self-fruitful.
Veteran Peach
One of the most reliable peaches for cold climates: winter hardy and late blooming. Yellow to yellow orange skin. When fully ripe the yellow flesh is freestone and richly flavored. Harvest one week before Elberta. 900 hours. Self-fruitful.
Bella Gold Peacotum® Interspecific Apricot
A new fruit type from Zaiger Hybrids. Peach x apricot x plum. Slightly fuzzy skin, like that of an apricot, is bright yellow with an attractive red blush. Tart skin gives way to mildly sweet amber flesh for a delightful eating experience. Naturally semi-dwarf tree. Pollenized by Blenheim apricot or Flavor Grenade Pluot®. 500 hours. (Pat. Warren Pear
Excellent quality dessert pear, tree is highly resistant to fire blight. Medium to large, long-necked fruit with pale green skin, sometimes blushed red. Candy Heart Pluerry™ Interspecific Plum
- New for 2016 - Candy Heart, having Japanese plum and sweet cherry in its parentage, is a taste-test proven treat for fruit lovers. Sweet Treat Pluerry™ Interspecific Plum
Sweet Treat is the first of its kind, the Pluerry™: a new fruit type from the genius of Floyd Zaiger. This taste-test favorite is a complex interspecific hybrid, predominantly of plum and cherry, combining the sweetness of a cherry with that summer fresh plum zing. Much larger than a cherry, this precocious and prolific variety will hang on the tree for over a month, and the colorful fruit make Sweet Treat a true ornamental. Tested as 46MB583. Beauty Plum
Sweet, flavorful plum, more widely adapted than Santa Rosa (more productive in cool, rainy climates). Red over yellow skin, amber flesh streaked red. Ripens June in Central CA, a week or more before Santa Rosa. 250 hours. Self-fruitful.
Elephant Heart Plum
Home orchard favorite: large, heart-shaped fruit with sweet, juicy, richly flavored, firm red flesh. Dark reddish-purple mottled skin. Long harvest season - September in Central CA. Hardy, heavy bearing tree. 500 hours or less. Pollenize with Beauty or Santa Rosa.
Methley Plum
Earliest plum: June in Central CA. Juicy, sweet, red flesh, mild flavor. Reddish purple skin. Attractive tree is heavy bearing and vigorous. Extremely cold hardy. 250 hours or less. Self-fruitful.
Toka Plum
Cross between wild plum and apricot plum. Small to medium-sized, dark cherry colored, semi-freestone plum. Yellow flesh is firm and tangy. From South Dakota, introduced in 1911. Excellent pollenizer for Japanese, American and hybrid plums. Cold hardy. USDA Zones 3-8.
Dapple Supreme Pluot® Interspecific Plum
A new low-chill Pluot® for home gardens, Dapple Supreme derives its name from two of the best: Dapple Dandy and Flavor Supreme. With red dappled skin like Dapple Dandy and sweet, dark red flesh like Flavor Supreme, Dapple Supreme is sure to please. Parfianka Pomegranate
Large size red fruit is sweet with a hint of acidity. Arils are red with very small edible seeds. Vigorous upright plant sets a heavy crop dependably. Maintain at any height with summer pruning. Consistently receives the highest praise for overall flavor. Great for juice or fresh eating. A Dr. Gregory Levin introduction through U.C. Davis. Very highly rated in U.C.Davis taste tests. Some rate Parfianka as the best tasting pomegranate. Required chill hours 100-200. Self-fruitful, best in zones 7-10.
Italian Prune
Large, purple skin, freestone. Rich flavor, very sweet when fully ripe. Fresh/dried/canned. Vigorous, cold hardy tree. Late bloom. Late summer harvest. 800 hours. Self-fruitful.
Sugar Prune
Reddish purple skin, greenish yellow flesh, very sweet. Used fresh and for canning. Lower chilling requirement than other European prune/plums. 550 hours. Self-fruitful.
Goji Berry
Lycium barbarum - (aka Wolfberry) is highly acclaimed for its high nutrient and antioxidant value. Recently termed a superfood. Ripe berries can be used fresh, dried, frozen and in teas. Goji has an appealing spicy, nutty flavor. Berries are bright red-orange when ripe. Harvest summer through fall. Shrubby plant to 8-12 ft. or prune to desired manageable size. Hardy to sub-zero and very drought tolerant once established. Requires neutral to slightly alkaline soil. Well adapted to container growing. Self-fruitful. USDA Zones 4 - 11.
Dwarf Everbearing Mulberry
Morus sp. 'Dwarf Everbearing'
This bush form of mulberry continuously produces sweet blackberry-like fruit throughout the season. A great choice for container gardening, minor pruning will keep the plant compact. Mature height 6'-8' if grown in the ground. Widely adapted, self-fruitful.
All-in-One Genetic Semi-Dwarf Almond

Colossal Chestnut
Thought to be a hybrid of Asian and European chestnuts. High quality medium to large size nuts fall easily from hull, are easy to peel. Large, long-lived, spreading tree. 400-500 hours. Pollenized by Nevada or Colossal seedling.
Nevada Chestnut
Pollenizer for Colossal - also a good producer. One Nevada can pollenize 8 to 10 Colossal trees. Not tolerant of alkaline soil. 400-500 hours. Pollenized by Colossal.
Pawnee Pecan
Newer early harvest variety. Adapted to growing seasons too short for Mahan or Western Schley, such as the northern Central Valley in California. Medium to large, thin-shelled nut. 250 hours. Partly self-fruitful, or plant with Mohawk.
Carmelo Walnut
Late leafing and blooming, adapted to colder climate than Hartley or other popular English walnuts. Very large, well filled nut. 700 hours. Self-fruitful. (Rootstock: NCB walnut or Paradox.)
Chandler Walnut
Developed by U.C. Davis. Heavy bearing (bears on lateral buds, not just terminals like Hartley). High quality light-colored nuts. Smaller tree than Hartley, good choice for backyard walnut. Fall harvest. 700 hours. Self-fruitful. (Rootstock: NCB walnut or Paradox.)
